NZ Beauty Report: Makeup, Hair and Skin Care Tips

Backstage New York Fashion Week rag & bone’s spring/summer 2014 collection

Who said a bright lip was not hot again this summer? Backstage at New York Fashion Week rag & bone’s spring/summer 2014 collection this week, Revlon global artistic director Gucci Westman proved it was. Models rocked a shot of coral on lips, paired with a bold brow. We can safely say, if you haven’t got a bright lippy - get one. This look is here to stay for the next 12 months  - at least. Westman was reported saying: “Red is too pretty, pink is too sweet. The orange is really hip.”

Try the new up-specked Super Lustrous Lipstick in Lovers Coral, $23.50 it hits counters next week.

NZFW Salasai show

Ok its official, the delicate reverse French mani by Leah Light at NZFW for the Salasai show was stand out. A combo of Delicate and Nocturnelle Lacquer’s the tips were created with Black Pigment. Backstage, MAC’s Amber D told us her inspiration for this show was: “Simple, Smart and Expensive” she nailed it, thanks to the presence of MAC Posey Crememblend Blush, which gave skin that luxurious sheen - heaven. If you haven’t got a pinky cream blush for summer - best you get one!

NZFW Stolen Girlfriends Club show

Dark and dangerous - was our take on Fashion Week’s Stolen Girlfriends Club show. However, MAC artist James Molloy’s inspiration was:“Pagan Punk in inky tones”. So - ok we will go with that. We have had to buy the MAC Gloss Crème Brilliance for the sheen it left on the models cheekbones and lids - love.

And we are still practicing nail guru’s Leah Light’s technique of custom blending, Vestral White, Delicate and Quiet Time Nail Lacquers to create the beige nude, with Nocturnelle Nail Lacquer, for the arty symbols.

Trelise Cooper at NZFW

A star at NZFW is always Trelise Cooper. Her show is a monumental production and this year with Amber D from MAC at the helm backstage, D’s brief from Cooper: “Soft vs. Tough” . In fact, rumor has it the facial piercing was Cooper’s idea (which on the runway, were just visible). We love the no-mascara eye, and the screaming blood wine lip, which was a mix of MAC Burgundy & Fuschia Lipmix. Against the not-so-perfect pony and back-combed buns, it really worked. Leah Light was at the ready with Nightfall Nail Lacquer, and a custom blend of black and white velvet pressed over the top - stunning.

Deryn Schmidt’s show at NZFW

Deryn Schmidt at NZFW had the talented artists from Smashbox backstage, creating a warm, feminine look using shades of champagne and deep chocolate. That was finished with a pretty, nude-pink lip. A standing ovation to Wella for their hair handy-work - we loved the pinned up bob. Talons where a colour combination of ORLY Rapture, a lush burgundy red, and ORLY Purple Crush, a deep shade of violet.

NYNE at Fashion Week with MAC

Fashion Weeks latest show NYNE had MAC artist James Molloy creating “A travelling nomad. She is ghostly and mysterious”. A breeze for this talented team - with the help of Clear Brow Set for those stunning on-trend brows, followed by Paint Pot in Tailored Grey, and Omega Eye Shadow on lids. The finishing touch, a matte lip look using Stone Lip Pencil.

Nail guru, Leah Light crafted a white nail, with a faded grey tip using MAC – love!

See how Molloy’s face chart has been bought to life.

Designer collection at NZ Fashion Week

NZ Fashion Weeks Designer Selection show had the team of Smashbox Cosmetics makeup artists on the job. Using the Fade to Black Collection – (soon to be in stores here) think smoky eyes and a bold mouth, The team believe it will give anyone ‘that instant uptown chic to downtown fever look’ - we’re happy with that!

Orly Rapture Nail Lacquer a dark burgundy red gave the finish touch to models nails.
